Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- Sri Lanka has made a significant leap forward in its democracy ranking, moving up 15 places compared to last year.
The improvement is highlighted in the latest 2025 Global State of Democracy (GSoD) report published by International IDEA.
The report attributes the notable progress to improvements in democratic indicators such as the presence of an elected government, freedom of expression, and media freedom.
The document points out that Sri Lanka is one of only two major countries in the Asia-Pacific region to show an improvement in media freedom.
The report also indicates progress in the stable application of law and personal security, which are linked to the 2024 elections.
