Sri Lanka CERT warns public against fraudulent overseas university ads on social media
Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (Sri Lanka CERT) has issued an urgent warning advising the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent advertisements on social media regarding admissions to foreign universities.
In an official statement, Sri Lanka CERT revealed that it has received multiple complaints from students and parents who have lost lakhs of rupees after falling victim to these recruitment scams.
The agency highlighted that advertisements appearing on social media platforms falsely promise university admission, overseas visa guarantees, multi-year work permits, and eventual citizenship in foreign countries.
