Sri Lanka, Oct. 22 -- Sri Lanka and Belize have formally established diplomatic relations, effective from yesterday (21), following the signing of an agreement.

The pact was signed in New York by the countries' respective representatives to the United Nations: Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Jayantha Jayasuriya, and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Belize to the United Nations, Janine Coye-Felson.

Both nations' foreign ministries issued a joint statement announcing that the move is expected to strengthen their existing friendly relations and foster greater collaboration across political, socio-economic, and cultural spheres, benefiting both countries.
