Sri Lanka, Aug. 1 -- A proposal to convert the Speaker's official residence into a parliamentary study and research centre has received policy approval from the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee.

This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne on July 24.

The primary goal of the new centre is to strengthen the legislative and governance capabilities of all government sectors.

It will provide access to advanced research facilities, specialised training, and policy analysis.

The committee has approved the appointment of a retired senior public official as the project manager for a six-month period to oversee the initial work of the centre.
