Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has certified the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill, which was passed in Parliament on August 6.
With his endorsement, the bill officially becomes the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Act, No. 14 of 2025.
The new act aims to:
Make provisions for formulating a "National Electricity Policy as part of the National Policy on Energy", replacing the "National Electricity Advisory Council."
Change the term "Wholesale Electricity Market" to the "National Electricity Market."
Ensure a continuous, efficient, and affordable electricity supply.
Minimize greenhouse gas emissions and promote renewable energy.
