Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- A young woman was killed and seven others, including three children, were injured when a van collided with a lorry on the Southern Expressway at midnight today (16).

The Southern Expressway traffic police reported that the deceased was a young woman from the Thawalama area.

The van was carrying a group of people from Thawalama to the Katunayake International Airport to pick up someone returning from employment in Israel.

The crash occurred at the 9.6-kilometre mark in the Moragahena Veediyagoda area when the van hit the back of a refrigerated lorry that was returning to Colombo after delivering goods to supermarkets.
