Sri Lanka, Sept. 13 -- A youth was injured after being knocked down by a three-wheeler on a pedestrian crossing in front of the Seetha Amman Kovil in Hakgala, along the Nuwara Eliya-Welimada main road.

According to officers from the Traffic Division of the Nuwara Eliya Police, the accident occurred when a three-wheeler travelling from Welimada towards Nuwara Eliya struck the youth as he was crossing the road.

Following the collision, the driver of the three-wheeler fled the scene with the vehicle.

The injured victim has been identified as the son of the chief priest of the Seetha Amman Kovil.

He has been admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for treatment.
