Sri Lanka, Sept. 28 -- A former Western Provincial Councillor and current Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Councillor, Amal Silva, was arrested today (28th) for allegedly possessing three luxury jeeps valued at over Rs.60 million, suspected to have been illegally imported and fraudulently registered using forged documents.
The arrest follows an investigation conducted by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit.
The three seized jeeps, which include Land Rover and Mitsubishi models, are estimated to be worth over Rs.60 million.
The raid, which was executed following a tip-off received by the Officer-in-Charge of the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit, took place on December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
