Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa, who was arrested on corruption charges by the Bribery Commission, has been remanded until September 30.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama issued the order, rejecting a request by the former minister.

Rajapaksa is accused of misappropriating public property and committing an act of corruption by allegedly using his official position to influence government officials to obtain Rs. 8,850,000 in compensation.

The compensation was for a building on Mahaweli Authority land in the Sewanagala Kiribbanaweva area that was damaged during protests in May 9, 2022.
