Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- Passengers have complained to authorities about severe congestion at Katunayake Airport last night (16).

Reports indicate there were long queues at both the check-in and immigration counters.

Some passengers stated that the delays could have caused them to miss their flights.

The congestion was reportedly caused by an excessive number of passengers in the departure terminal due to multiple flights being scheduled within a limited timeframe.

Many passengers, including foreign tourists, were inconvenienced.

An airport spokesperson who spoke to Hiru News acknowledged that congestion had occurred and stated that necessary steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence.
