Sri Lanka, June 19 -- The three-month grace period granted by the government for vehicles not equipped with seat belts ended today (19).

Accordingly, police officers conducted inspections this morning at the Gelanigama entrance to the Southern Expressway to check whether passengers travelling in private vehicles and passenger buses were wearing seat belts.

During the operation, officers observed that all 33 passengers on a private bus travelling from Panadura to Kaduwela were not wearing seat belts.

Police subsequently took action against the bus for violating the regulations.
