SC finds Deshabandu and OIC Nalin breached activist's rights
Sri Lanka, July 23 -- The Supreme Court(SC) ruled that Deshabandu Tennakoon, who functioned as Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Western Province at the time, and Nalin Sriyantha, who functioned as OIC of the Colombo North Special Investigation Unit at the time, violated fundamental rights by arresting and detaining a young social activist named Anuruddha Bandara during the Aragalaya period in 2022.
The Supreme Court issued this order following the examination of a fundamental rights petition submitted by Anuruddha Bandara.
