Sri Lanka, July 16 -- The annual Esala procession of the Ruhunu Kataragama Devalaya commenced last night (15).

Today marks the second day of the procession, which is scheduled to be held for 15 full days.

The first procession of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Esala procession festival paraded the streets at the auspicious time of 8.15 last night.

The Kataragama deity idol was carried on the tusker Vasana during this year's procession festival.

The Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Esala procession was vibrant this year too with numerous Up Country and Low Country cultural features.

A large crowd of people attended this year too to witness the procession.
