Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- Compensation cheques worth a total of Rs. 835 million were presented today (20) at the Badulla District Secretariat premises for 248 families affected by cyclone Ditwah in the Badulla Divisional Secretariat Division.

The programme was organised under the auspices of Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyaratne, during which steps were taken to provide compensation of Rs. 5 million each to families who completely lost their homes.

A sum of Rs. 10 million was awarded to two families for purchasing a new house, while another two families received initial instalments of Rs. 2 million each and second instalments of Rs. 1.5 million each.
