Sri Lanka, July 30 -- Gampaha High Court Judge Kanishka Wijeratne sentenced a 72-year-old teacher to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment today (30) after finding him guilty of committing severe sexual abuse against a 16-year-old student under his vocational training.

The judge ordered the convict to pay a fine of 15,000 rupees and provide 200,000 rupees as compensation to the aggrieved party.

Failure to settle the compensation incurs an additional two years of rigorous imprisonment, the judge ordered, while defaulting on the fine adds another six months of imprisonment.
