Sri Lanka, Aug. 24 -- Beliatta Police have announced the arrest of five individuals, including a retired Major General, on suspicion of treasure hunting. The arrests were made last night (23) following a tip-off from villagers.
The group was taken into custody while on a 12-acre plot of land located on the road leading to Dolahena estate, off the Beliatta-Dickwella road.
Police noted that a sorcerer was also among the arrested suspects.
According to officials, signs of a recent ritual were found at the site.
The retired Major General, a resident of Homagama, is a well-known figure in the military who once served as a head of the Ranaviru Seva Authority.
The other suspects are from the Govinna area in Horana.
