Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- The Sri Lanka Railway Department has warned of potential extended delays in restoring train services on the upcountry line, a day after an Intercity Express travelling from Kandy to Colombo Fort derailed near the Ihalakotte Railway Station.

The derailment, which occurred last afternoon (19), was caused by a minor earth slip that brought a mound of earth down onto the track.

Due to ongoing complications with re-railing operations, the Railway Department has had to cancel several services.

Initially, seven train journeys were cancelled this morning (20)

However, two additional services have now also been suspended.

The affected services are the train scheduled to depart from Colombo Fort for Nanu Oya at 12:40 p.m....
