Sri Lanka, Oct. 5 -- A restaurant in Bambalapitiya was fined Rs 1 million by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court for selling bottled drinking water above the maximum retail price.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court imposed this fine in a case filed against an establishment located on Galle Road, Colombo 04.

The fine was imposed after the company pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Consumer Affairs Authority informed the court that according to Order No. 96 of Extraordinary Gazette No. 2492/29, the maximum retail price specified for bottled drinking water from 500 ml to 999 ml is Rs 80. However, the Consumer Affairs Authority filed the case alleging that the restaurant sold a 500 ml water bottle for Rs 100.
