Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- The Irrigation Department has issued flood warning notices for several areas across the country as heavy rainfall has caused reservoir water levels to rise rapidly.
The department stated today (20) that water levels in the Maha Oya and Deduru Oya basins have reached flood risk limits, following significant rain yesterday (19)
Consequently, residents in low-lying areas of these river valleys have been advised of potential flooding.
In a related development, the Rajanganaya Reservoir is currently spilling, discharging water at a rate of 8,870 cubic feet per second.
This has significantly increased the risk of flooding in areas downstream along the Kala Oya.
