Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- According to the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Co-operatives Wasantha Samarasinghe, a request from local farmers to impose taxes on imported potatoes, red onions, and big onions has been referred to the Food Security Committee.
The Minister said that the committee is currently studying the request. Mr. Samarasinghe also noted that there are already import taxes in place: Rs. 20 per kilogram for potatoes, Rs. 50 per kilogram for red onions, and Rs. 10 per kilogram for big onions.
