Ranawaka calls for disclosure of Sri Lanka's fuel pricing formula
Sri Lanka, Oct. 3 -- Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has urged the Government to immediately disclose Sri Lanka's fuel pricing formula, questioning the difference between international fuel prices and the prices paid by local consumers.
In a statement, Ranawaka compared local fuel prices with Singapore FOB prices as of 2 October, using an exchange rate of Rs. 330 to the US dollar.
Based on the figures he cited, the estimated FOB price of a litre of Octane 92 Petrol was Rs. 292, calculated from a barrel price of USD 141, while the current domestic retail price stands at Rs. 414.
For Octane 95 Petrol, he estimated the FOB price at Rs. 305 per litre, based on USD 147 per barrel, compared with the local retail price of Rs. 475.
