Sri Lanka, July 31 -- A restaurant on a train travelling from Kankesanthurai to Colombo was fined 500,000 rupees from the Anuradhapura Magistrates Court for selling bottled drinking water above the specified maximum retail price.

The court delivered the verdict following a case filed by District Investigation Officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority.

Authorities discovered the trade during a special raid conducted in Anuradhapura on July 9, that a 1,000-millilitre water bottle carrying a maximum retail price of 120 rupees was sold to consumers for 150 rupees.

Consequently, legal action were filed against the Colombo Fort-based company for violating directive number 96 issued under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
