Sri Lanka, March 19 -- A Sub-Inspector serving as the OIC from the Ragama Police was arrested for allegedly accepting a Rs. 10,000 bribe to allow a business to operate at a weekly fair.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption confirmed the apprehension of the 58-year-old officer.

The investigation began following a complaint from a chicken stall owner in the Ragama market area.

The suspect reportedly demanded a weekly payment of Rs. 5,000 from the businessman to ensure his trade activities continued without interference.

Bribery Commission officials conducted a raid at the market center, catching the officer while he accepted the Rs. 10,000 sum, which represented two weeks of arrears.
