SriLanka, March 15 -- The Sri Lankan government has officially brought back the National Fuel Pass QR system to manage dwindling energy reserves amidst escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The Ministry of Power and Energy announced that the rationing scheme took effect at 06:00 today, Sunday, 15 March 2026. Authorities stated that the move is a precautionary measure to ensure the country's economic activities can continue as international supply routes face ongoing disruption. The Ministry also cited an "abnormal" surge in domestic demand, identifying illegal stockpiling and black-market syndicates as primary drivers for the sudden strain on national stocks.
