Sri Lanka, April 13 -- Public cooperation is requested to minimise road accidents caused by alcohol consumption and reckless driving during the New Year festive period.

Fatal road accidents totalling 46 resulted in 49 deaths between the 4th and 10th of this month. Furthermore, nearly 500 emergency incidents, including road and fireworks-related mishaps, occurred during the New Year season last year.
