Sri Lanka, July 19 -- Numerous internationally established conventions and agreements exist that establish the principles on the possible strengthening of the Judiciary, and democracy through separation of powers between the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary, as well as the system of checks and balances, stated Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Numerous progressive legal steps exist, spanning from the Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman eras to the Magna Carta, the creation of common law in medieval England, the 1787 American Constitution, human rights in 1948, civil and political rights in 1966, and the basic principles on the independence of the judiciary in 1985, the Opposition Leader added.
