Sri Lanka, Feb. 17 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered the release of a Police Sergeant and a Constable on bail after they were produced as suspects for failing to prevent a shooting in Jinthupitiya on the 14th.

The Modara Criminal Investigation Division arrested the two officers, who were on mobile patrol at the time of the incident.

The Magistrate granted bail after considering the facts presented, despite investigators requesting remand custody to protect the Police Department's reputation and set an example for other officers.

The Additional Magistrate noted that while the officers faced allegations of neglecting their duty during the shooting, the request for detention was refused based on the provisions of the Bail Act.
