SriLanka, April 6 -- Police Headquarters issued a special notice advising the public to remain vigilant against a surge in online financial fraud and data theft as the Sinhala and Tamil New Year approaches.
Authorities observed that scammers are exploiting the increased frequency of online shopping and digital payments during the festive period.
Financial hardships have also led more individuals to seek quick monetary gains through various websites, making them easier targets for fraudsters.
Analysis of previous complaints filed with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirms a high number of victims falling for such tactics during this season.
