Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- A police sergeant from the Traffic Division of the Ja-Ela Police has been remanded until September 4 for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.

The order was issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

The sergeant is accused of demanding the bribe from a motorcyclist to avoid court action and to return his driver's licence.

The motorcyclist, a resident of Ekala, had been caught driving his motorcycle across a closed railway crossing on August 6.

Following a complaint filed by the victim, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested the police sergeant on the afternoon of August 23 at the Ja-Ela Police Station.
