Sri Lanka, July 17 -- Former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne died this morning (17) after being hospitalised with gunshot wounds, the Police Media Division announced.

The shooting occurred this morning at his private residence located on Parakrama Road, Thalahena, within the Malabe police area, the division mentioned.

The former IGP, who sustained serious injuries from the shooting, was immediately admitted to the Colombo East Base Hospital (Mulleriyawa), where he passed away, the Police Media Division stated.

Malabe Police immediately commenced investigations into the incident, and the body of the deceased former IGP is currently placed at the Colombo East Base Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
