Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- A police constable on traffic duty at the Dematagoda Sri Dharmarama Road junction was assaulted and injured by an intoxicated individual last Saturday (27).

The injured officer was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment, and the suspect was subsequently arrested by the Dematagoda Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. while the constable, attached to the Traffic Division of the Dematagoda Police Station, was controlling traffic at the intersection.

An intoxicated individual arrived at the location and began mimicking the police officer and directing traffic himself.
