Sri Lanka, Feb. 7 -- A police constable was admitted to the Dickoya Base Hospital early this morning (07) with serious injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon by a fellow officer while sleeping in the Bagawantalawa police barracks.

An argument broke out between the two officers, who were reportedly heavily intoxicated, inside the police station on the night of the 06th.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pradeep Weerasinghe for the Hatton Division stated that one constable later stabbed the other in the abdomen while he was asleep.

The suspect remains in custody and will be produced before the Hatton Magistrate's Court, while a formal investigation into the incident continues.
