Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya, is focusing on swiftly identifying and expelling police officers who are addicted to drugs.

According to police sources, a formal plan to implement this initiative is currently being developed.

Currently, officers suspected of drug addiction are sent to the police hospital and the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board for testing.

In the future, the plan is to conduct drug tests on police officers at the police station level to identify drug users.

Police sources say a significant number of officers are addicted to drugs, according to available data.

In recent times, about 100 officers have been caught by the police themselves for drug use.
