Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- A special operation conducted by the Police and Tri-Forces yesterday (3) saw 25,870 being inspected.

During the operation, 10,423 motor vehicles and 7,846 motorcycles were also inspected.

According to a police report, 968 people were arrested for drug-related offences, 23 were arrested for direct involvement in crimes, and 371 were arrested on warrants.

The operation also led to the seizure of three locally manufactured illegal firearms.

In addition, police arrested 110 people for drunk driving and 3,202 for other traffic violations, including reckless driving.

Meanwhile, the North Western Provincial Crime Division of the Sri Lanka Police was opened in Kurunegala yesterday.
