Sri Lanka, Oct. 19 -- Sri Lanka's National System Operator moved for power cuts over three days, on the 19th, 20th and 21st, and sought approval from the Public Utilities Commission and the subject ministry.

Under the plan, the island was divided into four zones, with the cuts to fall between 4.30 pm and 8.30 pm. Each zone was to face a power cut of one hour within that window.

The proposal now rests with the Public Utilities Commission and the ministry, whose clearance was needed before any cut could take effect.
