SriLanka, April 7 -- Opposition members of the Pelmadulla Pradeshiya Sabha entered the council chamber today (07) carrying firewood bundles, gas cylinders, and protest signs to voice their dissent against the government's decision to sharply increase gas prices.

The councillors highlighted that raising gas prices ahead of the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year season would trigger a price hike in numerous other essential goods and services. They emphasised that this move places a severe economic and mental burden on ordinary citizens preparing for the festive season.
