Sri Lanka, Feb. 16 -- A 79-year-old woman residing in Balagolla, Meegahakiula, died at the scene yesterday (15) after being struck by a lorry on the Badulla-Mahiyangana road, according to Kandaketiya Police. The incident involved a lorry transporting motorcycles toward Badulla. Police report that the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, who was traveling in the same direction. The fatal outcome occurred when the victim was caught under the rear wheels of the lorry.

The driver of the lorry is currently in custody, and police are conducting further investigations into the circumstances of the event.
