Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- The Parliamentary Finance Committee has proposed to the President that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the Auditor General's Department be granted full independence. This was announced today (12) in Parliament by the Chairman of the committee, Samagi Jana Balawegaya Member of Parliament Dr. Harsha de Silva.

Dr. de Silva emphasised that it's crucial for these two institutions to be fully independent, regardless of which government is in power. He pointed out that since their budgets are currently managed under the Ministry of Finance, they are susceptible to political influence.
