Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- An urgent debate is scheduled to take place in Parliament today during the adjournment on a proposal submitted by the Opposition to the Speaker. The motion opposes the transfer of powers to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) via a special gazette notification, which relates to the transfer of Officers-in-Charge (OICs) of police stations.
The motion was handed over to Speaker Dr Jagath Wickramaratne by Samagi Jana Balawegaya Member of Parliament, SujeewaSenasinghe.
In a separate matter, a new method for paying bus fares using bank cards will be implemented starting on the 30th of next month, according to an announcement made by Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Ratnayake, in Parliament yesterday.
