Sri Lanka, June 9 -- The proposal to extend the state of public emergency declared in the country by a further one month was passed in Parliament with a majority of 128 votes.

The motion was approved following a vote held after today's parliamentary debate, with members casting votes both in favour and against the extension.

A total of 135 votes were cast in favour of the proposal, while 7 members voted against it.
