Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has stated that 712 high-risk locations have been identified across the island as a measure to minimise road incidents, with necessary provisions and future actions currently being planned to improve these sites.

Speaking at a meeting attended by the Minister of Public Security and other officials, the Inspector General of Police further revealed that the number of fatal road incidents in the country exceeds 2,500 annually.

The IGP stated that 1,849 fatal road incidents have been reported so far this year, with between 7 and 10 people dying daily in road incidents.
