Sri Lanka, Oct. 8 -- Prime Minister announced in Parliament that from January to the end of August this year, 425 women have been imprisoned, and an additional 4,686 women were arrested on suspicion.

The PM made these remarks in response to a question raised by MP Attorney-at-Law Hasara Liyanage.

The PM disclosed that 38 mothers were incarcerated along with their infants during this period, and these children include 15 boys and 23 girls.

The PM emphasized that the government plans to take several steps for the welfare and future of these unfortunate infants and young children.
