Srilanka, Dec. 3 -- The government has begun the distribution of an initial grant of Rs. 25,000 for cleaning and restoring houses damaged by the widespread floods.
The first distribution took place yesterday (02), under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
The grant money was distributed to more than 100 families in the Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat Division of the Colombo District.
These are families whose homes were affected by the floods but are still habitable.
The initial Rs. 25,000 is intended to cover the costs of cleaning and sanitising the properties.
The Colombo District Coordinating Committee confirmed that this is the first phase of the aid package.
