Sri Lanka, July 9 -- Hatton Magistrate Peter Paul ordered Public Health Inspectors today (09) to destroy a stock of 1,740 kilogrammes of yellow dhal, which was found to be infested with weevils and unfit for human consumption at a wholesale store in Kotagala town, by spraying it with kerosene.

Public Health Inspectors from the Kotagala Medical Officer of Health office discovered and took custody of this stock of dhal while it was hidden in a warehouse during a raid conducted in Kotagala town.

The seized stock of dhal was produced before the court today (09).

When the case was called before the court, the owner of the dhal stock pleaded guilty, and the Magistrate consequently ordered the suspect trader to pay a fine of 2,000 rupees.
