Sri Lanka, Feb. 17 -- Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa challenged the government today (17) in Parliament to conduct Provincial Council elections if they truly believe in their high popularity ratings.

He noted that the administration seems emboldened by a recent opinion poll showing high support, yet continues to use tactics like committees and select committees to delay the electoral process.

Premadasa questioned why the government is avoiding the Provincial Council elections if they claim to have 65% public approval.

He urged the government to stop using various ploys to postpone the vote and allow the people to express their will.
