Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB)-led Opposition today (7) submitted a proposal to the Speaker of Parliament to appoint a Special Select Committee (SSC) to investigate the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port without mandatory physical inspection.
The Opposition is requesting the SSC to look into the release of 323 containers that were marked with "Red Labels" (requiring mandatory physical inspection) but were released without following proper procedure.
The controversy stems from the fact that a prior investigation committee appointed by the Treasury Secretary, following instructions from the President, made observations that:
