Sri Lanka, Oct. 27 -- One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a road incident that occurred around 4:30 AM today (27) on the Central Expressway, when a car travelling from Kurunegala collided with the rear of a lorry laden with iron rods.

The accident occurred near the 6-kilometre post from the Kurunegala interchange, according to the Kurunegala Expressway Traffic Division.

The deceased was identified as Hulugalle Bandaranayake, a resident of the Halpe Mawatha area in Kuliyapitiya.

He was travelling in the back seat of the car and died at the scene.

Police stated that the incident occurred because the driver of the car fell asleep, causing the vehicle to hit the back of the lorry travelling ahead.
