Sri Lanka, Oct. 3 -- One person was killed and five others were injured after a van veered off the road and crashed into a tree on the Wellawaya-Thanamalwila Road near the 288-kilometre post in Kithulkote this morning (3), according to the Thanamalwila Headquarters Police.
The van was transporting a group of employees from a garment factory in Avissawella who were returning to the Buttala area after an official trip.
The deceased has been identified as K. R. Wansathilaka (56), a Quality Controller residing at D 04, Ela Athupara Yaya, Dambulla. He was travelling in the van.
Five other occupants, including the 18-year-old driver, Sasanka Udula Chintha of Kotabowa, Bibila, sustained injuries.
