SriLanka, April 7 -- The Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested today (07) by investigating officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The arrest follows allegations of corruption involving the approval of a construction plan for state-owned land within the Magoda Grama Niladhari Division. The Chairman is accused of providing an undue advantage to an applicant by bypassing the standard legal procedures required for development permits.
Reports indicate the approval violated provisions of the Urban Development Authority Act, constituting a criminal act of corruption. The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
