Sri Lanka, Sept. 30 -- A non-passenger was taken into custody early this morning (30) at the Katunayake International Airport while attempting to leave with 75 bottles of foreign-made liquor valued at approximately ten million rupees (Rs. 1,000,000), purchased from the airport's Duty-Free complex.

The arrest occurred around 2:40 AM, carried out by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau. The person detained is a 38-year-old businessman residing in the Viluka area of Puttalam.

He had reportedly packed the large quantity of liquor bottles into five pieces of luggage and was exiting the premises, having already passed the airport's bank area. It was noted that this individual, who was not a traveler, had last flown on August 17, 2024.
